The Wishing Well Day Nursery Play Activities Our SENCO here at the Nursery is Emma Crane .

It is the policy of the Nursery to care for all children equally and be equal in opportunity, no matter what special educational needs they may have.

The Nursery aims are as follows: To recognise the following categories as having special educational needs.

  • Emotional / Behaviour problems.
  • Gifted children.
  • Learning difficulties.
  • Physical disability.
  • Possible abuse.
  • Sensory impairment.
  • Speech & language problems.
  • To establish the needs of the individual. Information and advice shall be acquired through the following:
  • Parents / guardians.
  • Other Professionals.
  • Local support groups.
  • National societies.
  • To acknowledge the following as possible needs of the individual.
  • Individual attention from an assigned worker.
  • Particular toys or equipment.
  • Peripatetic support.
  • Physical aids.
  • Regular medication.
  • Special diet.
  • Special facilities.
  • Special learning programme.
  • Special transport.
  • To meet the identified needs of the individual as follows:
  • In service training for staff.
  • Enlist the support and understanding of the parents.
  • Modify / adapt the curriculum.
  • Monitor the child's development and progress through observation and record keeping.
  • Work with parents to maximise child's development.
  • Ensure activities are accessible and carefully planned.
  • Ensure smooth transition into Nursery.
  • Liaise with child's next placement - e.g. other Nursery or school.
